Irbit: the motorcycle capital of the Urals

Irbit is one of the oldest towns in the Ural region. Its story began in year 1631 with the founding of the Irbitskaya Sloboda on the intersection of the Irbit and Nitsa Rivers. Originally the former river was called Irbeey, and settlement – Irbeevskaya Sloboda; the modern-day name emerged later.

Irbit’s fame comes from local attractions that include the Irbit Fair and Museum of Folk Life, and Irbit motorcycles.

Tour schedule:

12:00 – arrival in Irbit;

12:00 – 12:45 – a guided tour of the Irbit State Motorcycle Museum (Muzey Mototsiklov). First opened to the public on the 25th of June 2004, the Museum has a large collection of motorcycles of all leading brands from the United Kingdom, Germany, the USA and Japan (model years from 1935 to 1989);

12:45 – 13:45 – a tour of the “Motodom” motoculture Centre – a exposition hall for special and antique motorcycles;

13:50 – 14:30 – lunch at the Museum of Folk Life, free time to visit the gift shop;

14:30 – 15:10 – the Irbit Museum of Folk Arts – a guided tour: “The culture, everyday life and activities of the Irbit residents at end of XIX – beginning of the XX century”. You will get to see a large collection of samovars (including the smallest 100 gram one and the largest 415 litre samovar) as well as traditional furniture, folk art, kitchenware and other things you would find in a local home a century ago.

15:15 – 16:15 – a visit to the Irbit Museum of Etching & Illustration (Muzey gravyury i risunka)
